"This was a wonderful place to stay for our week in Mexico Beach, FL!
THE HOUSE
The house was clean, beautifully decorated, and well stocked. The kitchen had a nice mix of plastic and real dishes, which was wonderful since we had a couple of younger children with us. All of the furniture was extremely comfortable! We've stayed at many properties over the years, and this was probably the most comfortable home we've been to. The mattresses are not too soft/not too firm. All guests were happy with their beds, and that rarely happens in our group! The couch is very comfy. We play a lot of table top games, and the kitchen chairs were perfect for hours of sitting and playing games on the not-so-nice days. The layout was perfect for our two families: 4 adults, 3 teens, 2 children. The pool was a little smaller than I expected, but worked fine for our group. Having the pool heated was a game-changer! So much more pool time in the cooler March weather! The owners clearly took special care in decorating and furnishing this home to make their guests feel at home!
THE BEACH
Beach access was great! This house is just a few properties down from the beach, and it's a flat walk with no stairs or climbing over large dunes, which made it easy for wagons and carts. There are no roads to cross, perfect when you're trying to get the beach with little ones. The beach wasn't crowded, and we had plenty of space for our family. The other groups at the beach appeared to be mostly other families or couples. There were a couple of groups of college agers, but definitely not the rowdy spring break vibe that we've experienced in Panama City Beach in the past. There is also a canal that is 0.6 miles down the beach if you walk to the right. It's a nice walk and we found some cool shells since that area was just off the beaten path. It's worth noting that they are currently dredging the canal to get it ready for the summer season, which made the water brown and murky - it reminded us a little more of being on the Atlantic instead of the gulf. It was not a big deal for us since we weren't really getting in past the surf. However, if you're expecting clear gulf waters, that may have to wait until the dredging is complete.
THE MANAGEMENT COMPANY
We've rented a lot of properties through the years and dealt with a lot of Property Management companies. This has been the best company that I've dealt with! They are responsive, friendly, and very welcoming! We ran into one issue with the pool heater not working after a stormy night, and they sent someone over to fix the issue. Also, there were a couple of small outdoor maintenance items that they wanted to get corrected right away. So, they called to ask if it would be okay to have someone on the property (outside) briefly to take care of a couple of things. I loved their consideration!
THE AREA
This was our first time in Mexico Beach, and I'm so glad we stumbled upon it! The community is still rebuilding from Hurricane Michael in 2018, but you can feel the 'Mexico Beach Strong' vibe throughout their community. I witnessed two different occasions during my one week stay of community members going above and beyond to help out. I love the community spirit! Yes, it's small, but that was perfect for us! They have a general store and market for quick needs, and we were able to do Walmart pickup orders in Callaway, just a 30 minute drive, for the rest of our grocery needs.
THE CONSTRUCTION
At the time of our stay, the houses on either side of us were currently under construction and being worked on while we were there, as well as a few other homes on the street we were on and even more on surrounding streets. They are rebuilding. In the end, it's going to be absolutely beautiful! Right now, the beauty is in the resurrection of the small coastal town. We didn't get a lot of peaceful daytime moments hanging out of the deck, listening to the ocean. However, I didn't notice construction noise inside the house, and we even had a napping toddler! We also didn't notice any construction noise while on the beach. Don't let the construction scare you away! Embrace the rebuild of Mexico Beach!
Thank you to Forgotten Coast for making this such a wonderful stay!
